Roald Dahl’s scrumptiously inventive world is coming to life on stage as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY makes its Manila premiere at The Theatre at Solaire in Manila from July 8 to July 26, 2026. Following a sold-out run at Shanghai Culture Square in November 2025 and wildly enthusiastic reviews from audiences, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, the Broadway Musical, has announced that theatre fans can enjoy early ticket access through UnionBank of the Philippines from January 12 – 15, 2026 at ticketworld.com.ph. Based on Roald Dahl’s globally beloved novel, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY follows young Charlie Bucket’s golden-ticket adventure into the mysterious and magical world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. From chocolate rivers to nut-sorting squirrels and mischievous Oompa-Loompas, the musical dazzles with eye-popping visuals, larger-than-life characters, immersive delight for the audience, and toe-tapping music. The musical features iconic songs from the classic 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” along with original music by Grammy® and Tony Award® winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Mary Poppins Returns).

Transforming Willy Wonka’s fantastical factory into a world where the impossible feels possible, renowned Las Vegas magic and illusion designer Tim Clothier joins the Broadway team and says, “Willy Wonka is the king of imagination, and being able to design new stage wizardry for that character is a dream come true.” 

The Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory premiered in 2017 running for over 300 performances, followed by a four year North American tour through 2022.  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory also ran on London’s West End where the production received two Olivier Awards. This Global Tour is scheduled to tour for 2 to 3 years in Asia, the Middle East and India in leading cities around the world including Manila, Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan, Taipei, and Seoul.

About Jack O’Brien (Original Broadway Director)

About Matt Lenz (Director)

Matt Lenz is a New York-based director whose 30+ year career encompasses work on Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, regional theater, and international productions. Broadway credits include: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, The Velocity of Autumn (Associate Director on original productions), Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (Resident Director). Off-Broadway: Pageant: The Musical (Drama Desk nomination), The Irish Curse (Soho Playhouse), Idaho! (NYMF), The Great Daisy Theory, Fingers and Toes (NYMF), and Alan Ball’s The Amazing Adventures of Tense Guy. National Tours: A Christmas Story: The Musical, Cheers Live Onstage, Catch Me If You Can, and Hairspray.

Lenz also directed productions of Hairspray in South Africa; U.K.; Toronto; Las Vegas; and Germany. About Marc Shaiman

Marc Shaiman is an award-winning lyricist, composer, orchestrator and performer, who has successfully created music and lyrics for TV, films, recordings, and theater since entering show business at the age of 16 in 1976. Shaiman has been Oscar-nominated seven times (for Mary Poppins Returns, Sleepless In Seattle, Patch Adams, The First Wives Club, The American President, and South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut). He has received three Tony Award nominations (winning one for co-writing the score to Hairspray with co-lyricist Scott Wittman), eight Grammy Award nominations (winning two for The Original Cast Recordings of Hairspray and Some Like It Hot), twelve Emmy Award nominations (winning two, for his work on Billy Crystal’s Academy Award hosting and for co-writing, with Wittman and Pasek & Paul, “Which Of The Pickwick Triplets Did It?” for “Only Murders In The Building”), two Golden Globe nominations (for the song The Star, co-written with Mariah Carey) and his score for Mary Poppins Returns), and two BAFTA nominations (for Sleepless In Seattle and Mary Poppins Returns). About Scott Wittman

Tony, Emmy, two-time Grammy, and Olivier Award-winning lyricist, director, writer, and conceiver, Scott Wittman co-wrote the lyrics for the hit musical Hairspray (Tony, Grammy, Olivier Award winner) with creative partner Marc Shaiman. Wittman also served as an executive producer on the hit film starring John Travolta. Scott was nominated for a Golden Globe, Grammy, and two Emmy Awards for the original songs on NBC’s musical drama “Smash.” While working on the show, he co-wrote songs for

Jennifer Hudson, Uma Thurman, Bernadette Peters, and Liza Minnelli. Shaiman and Wittman’s original score for the Marilyn Monroe musical Bombshell was released by Sony Records. Scott’s Broadway credits include Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, which he also directed, Catch Me If You Can (Tony nom. for Best Musical), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Broadway and the West End and Some Like it Hot (13 Tony nominations).
